Then Pozo Izquierdo, a small fishing town on the islands west coast is the place to head, as from the 9th to the 14th July the PWA Pozo World Cup windsurfing championships are taking place along its shores.
Pozo Izquierdo is considered throughout the windsurfing world as one of the best spots on the planet to hit the waves, due to its strong winds – which can reach in excess of fifty knots – and steep waves.
Pozo attracts the worlds most skilled and radical windsurfers, who display gravity defying stunts wowing the crowds and judges lining the shore.
Surfers to watch are the Moreno twins, Daida and Iballa, hailing from Gran Canaria. The twins have dominated the competition at Pozo for the past 13 years and they look set to continue their successful run during this years competition.
