Anfi Seabed Clean Up

09/09/2011 - The Anfi Group launched their “End of Summer Beach Clean Up” as it gets ready for the winter season

Anfi Seabed Clean Up

Las Friday staff of the Anfi Group scoured the sea bed off Anfi Beach in search of waste and litter with the aim of leaving the coast in good shape in readiness for the winter season, which begins in October.

Operation 'Clean-Up' is part of the “Anfi Cares” project - a program of social and environmental responsibility to which the Anfi Group is fully dedicated.

Under the umbrella of “Anfi Cares” the Anfi Group has held fund raising golf tournaments for a UNICEF Spain, Manos Unidas and for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan as well contributing prizes to other charity fundraiser.

During event which was coordinated by Anfi’s Marketing Department, nearly a dozen divers, made up of Anfi staff and members alike, took to the water to comb the sea bottom as part of Anfi Group’s on-going environmental initiatives.

Carlos Valido, Head of Controlling of the group said, "Through this initiative we are once again showing our commitment and respect for the environment.”

The inaugural Anfi Beach seabed clean up took place thanks to the participation of Scuba Sur diving school and Luis Molina Sports and, despite being the first time, Valido felt the event was a "great success".

He said, "The volunteers did a fantastic job and the proof is in the large amount of objects collected. This success will encourage Anfi to repeat the cleaning initiative next year.

Taking care of the coast and the maintenance of our natural resources is fundamental to everyone, not just for tourists who visit us, but for the residents."

The weather conditions were excellent for diving and at the end of the day, the container that had been rented for the purpose, proved insufficient to hold all the rubbish retrieved from the seashore.

Several kilos of solid waste, mostly plastics and glass were collected - highly polluting non-bio degradable material that can cause damage to seabed for many years. The volunteers also retrieved a shopping trolley and a large number of empty soft drink cans.

Although they were satisfied with the results, the divers were sure, that despite the volume of waste collected, that "much remains to be done".

To show their appreciation for the efforts of the volunteers, the management of Maroa Club de Mar invited participants for refreshments after the clean up.

Carlos Valido summed up, "We want to thank everyone who contributed and generously supported this initiative and we hope to be able to rely on their support for next year:”
