23/07/2010 - The annual PWA (Professional Windsurfing Association) Gran Prix is getting to ready to hit Gran Canaria from the 6th till the 9th of July this summer. The competition kicks off in the coastal town of Pozo Izquierdo which is situated a short distance from Las Palmas airport and only 20 minutes from Anfi.

Gran Canaria is regarded as a Mecca for windsurfers as the area surrounding Pozo is famous for its great wind conditions and safe surf areas. There are numerous windsurfing schools situated along the south coastal areas, and when the wind is up the ocean is awash with surfers.
Big favourites in the men’s category this year are locals Bjorn Dunkerbeck and Phillip Koster and in the women’s category the unstoppable Moreno Twins, also from Gran Canaria are favourites yet again.
Paul Griffiths from the PWA sums it up,
